Women Watch Porn, Don’t Masturbate?

woman watching pornThe other day, I opened my RSS reader and saw the headline Study: Women buying more porn. This was intriguing for a number of reasons, the main one being that I’ve always suspected that women were watching porn in much larger numbers than they’ve traditionally been willing to admit. Perhaps now the truth was coming out?

To the best of my knowledge, porn is primarily a masturbatory aid (some find it a turn on to watch with a partner, but I get the sense that those people aren’t in the majority). According to the sexologist quoted in the article, “A lot of women who’ve been suppressed about getting sexual information are finding that there is an educational element to a number of adult films.” Not only that, “women are watching for the creative storyline and videography. Others use it as a tool for their own relationships.”

Let’s be honest: porn is by and large devoid of any creativity and most certainly the last place anyone needs to be looking for sex ed. Especially women, since porn is very rarely about women’s pleasure.

So, with that in mind, I call shenanigans on this assertion that women are watching porn for its educational and cinematic value. My guess: women are watching porn and getting off, but don’t want to admit it.

It’s becoming less of a taboo to admit to watching porn, but women are still too embarrassed to tell “researchers” that they actually masturbate, so they give them the modern-day equivalent of “I read Playboy for the articles.” That way, they look sexually adventurous but don’t have to admit to touching their naughty bits.

To those women, I say: You’re not fooling anyone (except, perhaps, credulous journalists). So stop trying. There’s nothing shameful about enjoying pornography for its intended purpose. I promise you won’t go blind.

Stormy Daniels Arrested, Adviser’s Car Bombed

MUGImageASP.ASPStormy Daniels was arrested Saturday, July 25th and charged with Battery against her husband, Mike Moz, an industry publicist. She posted $1,000 bond. The image below is Stormy Daniels’ arrest report.

Stormy Arrest Report

Additionally, Brian Welsh, Stormy’s political adviser and founder of DraftStormy.com awoke yesterday morning to find that his car had been bombed. He’s not sure whether it was connected to Stormy’s campaign to unseat Louisiana senator David Vitter.

Below is the news coverage of the bombing.

I very seriously condemn any domestic violence, regardless of who the batterer is. Stormy has yet to make a statement about the incident, so all we have to go on is the police charge report at this point.

And obviously, the bombing of Mr. Welsh’s car is despicable. A surveillance camera caught the entire crime on video and it’s already been uploaded to YouTube. Let’s hope the perpetrator is caught.

UPDATE: The Smoking Gun has the full police report from the night Stormy Daniels was arrested. Evidently, she was angry about the way her husband’s father did her laundry and then found out that several bills had gone unpaid. At some point during the fight, she hit her husband in the head, broke things and threw their wedding album. He did not hit her back.

Recent Goings-On in the World of Porn

As you guys know, I’ve been on vacation for the last two weeks. I’m back now and here’s a roundup of what happened when I was gone (other than a slew of mainstream celebrity deaths):

ukraineNon-medicinal porn outlawed in Ukraine
Ukraine made owning or looking at porn without a prescription illegal. Punishment for possession of pornography will include fines and imprisonment for up to three years. I wonder how many people will be taking a trip to see their doctor?

kaydenAdam & Eve contract girl Kayden Kross sentenced
Long story short: Kayden Kross pled “no contest” to charges that arose out of her involvement with a mortgage scam that cost a veteran and his family their home. I’ve always thought Kayden seemed hot in an evil way…

meganVH1 loves putting porn people on their reality shows
Apparently, VH1 has given golddigger Megan her very own dating show in which she looks for a rich guy to leech from. The porn connection? Megan was a Playboy CyberGirl and Sextoy.com owner Dave Levine will be one of the contestants. Starts August 2nd.

robExtreme Associates owners sentenced to 366 days in prison
The obscenity case I’ve been watching for six years has finally ended – with Rob Black and Lizzy Borden in prison. The miscarriage of justice this represents is astounding. Kayden Kross gets a slap on the wrist while Rob and Lizzy spend a year and a day in jail. Fucked.

evaEva Angelina loves diet pill that causes anal leakage
In an interview with Luke is Back, Eva admitted that she was able to lose her baby weight so quickly by taking the FDA-approved Alli. The rest of the interview is pretty interesting too.

taxCalifornia porn tax once again fails to gain traction
I’ve lost count of the number of times this has been proposed, but it’s hard to take it seriously when this dead horse gets dragged out for a beating anymore. I just hope California continues to remember not to bite the hands that feed it.

savannaNYTimes publishes yet another useless story about porn
Savanna Samson is sad that she doesn’t get to do many features anymore. It’s all the fault of that doggone internet and the over-18 youth of today having no attention span. I’m sure video games and rock music deserve some of the blame as well.

New HIV Infection Reported in Porn Industry: The Facts as We Know Them

aidsribbonAs many of you are likely already aware, a case of HIV was reported in an active performer in the adult industry. I’ve been following the news very closely but have waited until now to write about it so as not to make hasty proclamations before the real story is known.

Now that nearly a week has passed, I’m comfortable giving a rundown of what most likely happened and what I think about it. Today’s post will go over the sequence of events that have transpired over the last week. In a subsequent post, I’ll talk about why I think the way porn performers’ health is protected needs a well-thought-out overhaul.

What Happened

The news was first made public on an industry message board by actress/producer Nina Vain. Adult Industry Medical Healthcare Foundation (AIM) was contacted by several people to confirm or deny the report of a positive HIV test and all were initially told that it was untrue (including Peter Romero, an early and vocal supporter of AIM). Only after the outcry reached a critical mass did AIM finally admit that it was true. In a statement, AIM founder and former performer Sharon Mitchell said that it was their policy not to make the news public because it was “not a major event.”

Almost immediately after AIM publicly confirmed the story, it was picked up by the LA Times. The newspaper contacted the LA Dept of Health and broke the news that 22 individuals have tested positive for HIV at AIM since 2004 – approximately 18 more than most people in the industry were aware of. This caused a firestorm of controversy in industry circles as well as the mainstream press.

If AIM is to be believed (and no factual evidence has contradicted their story so far), of that twenty-two,

  • One is Patient Zero who tested positive on June 6th
  • Four were straight performers who became infected in the outbreak in 2004
  • One was a transsexual performer who tested positive in 2004
  • Ten were male performers who have sex with other men (Gay talent is not tested because they are generally assumed to have the disease. This is why the gay industry uses condoms in 99% of their movies.)
  • Six were people receiving their first AIM test so that they could enter the adult industry

AIM also asserts that it did not make any mistakes in giving MILF/Patient Zero her results. Their timeline is:

  • April 19: Patient Zero receives her first HIV test at AIM. The test is negative.
  • June 4: Patient Zero is tested at AIM again. No results are given on this date.
  • June 5: Patient Zero performs in a boy/girl scene.
  • June 6: AIM notifies Patient Zero that she has tested positive for HIV.

This means that Patient Zero had gone 36 days without a test and was allowed to work. The standard period between tests is 30 days. It’s alleged that the director who hired her despite knowing that her test was 36 days old was Tom Moore, aka Tranny Dundee. The identity of Patient Zero and the two males she has had sexual contact with since June 4 is still unknown and all are under voluntary sexual quarantine.

Patient Zero is said to have performed in three scenes between her first and second test and although it is technically possible that one of those performers either exposed her or was exposed by her to HIV, they are not being quarantined at this time.

At the present time, both critics and supporters of the industry are calling for change. Some in the form of different testing regimes, others supporting mandatory condom use. The public reaction from most performers and directors has been relatively muted, with most pointing out that there are risks inherent in the job that a condom requirement may only exacerbate.

Stay tuned for part two of this series on HIV in the industry and what changes I think need to be made for the protection of the performers and of the business overall.

Review of Janine Lindemulder’s Scene with Transsexual Vaniity

vanity-janineRight before leaving for federal prison, Janine Lindemulder shot a scene with one of the most popular transsexual stars in the biz – Vaniity. The scene has just been released on her website and there is understandably a good bit of hype about it, especially after Janine told Howard Stern that she’d been in love with Vaniity for a long time before they shot it.

The scene itself is 12:27 long and packs a lot into a pretty short length of time. They start the scene by kind of dancing around and grinding on each other, almost bellydancer-style. The set they used for the shoot has sort of an I Dream of Jeanie feel to it and the ladies are dressed to fit the atmosphere.

The first thing I noticed was that the soundtrack drowned out the audio between Janine and Vaniity. It made sense during the first few minutes because I don’t suppose there was much said during the dance, but when Janine and Vaniity start seriously grinding on each other, you can tell we’re missing out on something.

The action really gets started when Vaniity starts eating Janine out around 6:00. They go through a few positions and Vaniity does her best to lick Janine’s pussy while she undulates and goes into yoga-like poses.

At 8:50, Janine starts fucking Vaniity in earnest, albeit slowly, starting out in a sideways reverse cowgirl position where she’s partially standing and riding Vaniity in a bellydancer-esque way. You have a good view of the action in this position and around this time, the on-set audio becomes audible.

They try a few more positions – doggy, missionary with Janine’s legs pulled together up by her head – and end the scene with a blowjob and a wave. Those expecting a money shot may be a bit disappointed, although I think one has to cut trannies a bit of slack in that department.

Overall, I think the scene could’ve been a bit longer and more passionate, but if you’re a fan of these ladies, I think it’s worth a look. For a sneak peek, you can check out these preview videos on Janine’s site:

Gianna’s First Anal Scene

Gianna Michaels first anal in Big Wet Asses 15Elegant Angel announced last week that Gianna Michaels has finally shot her first anal scene and it will be released at the end of this month.

I am generally not a “first anal” enthusiast (I think anal’s great, it just tends not to be a monumental thing when a girl does it 8 months into her career), but after 5 years in the business, Gianna doing an anal scene is actually something of a big deal. I say that as a member of the industry and as a fan.

According to director William H., “Gianna’s anal scene isn’t like your typical 1st anal scene. It’s very hardcore and features lots of ATM.” I don’t think we’d expect anything less from Gianna. Always an energetic performer, I’m sure she wanted this scene to go as well as possible because she’s spent the last 5 years dodging the question, “So when are you going to do anal?”

The timing of this movie is very interesting. Gianna’s very first anal scene – something that’s likely to have cost Elegant Angel a decent sum and make them a bunch of money – is happening during very tough times for the industry. As reader G man put it, “Coinkidink? – Or work getting scarse [sic] for even the biggest stars?” I doubt it’s a coincidence. When times get tough, smart people do what they need to do to survive and I think that’s what Gianna and Elegant Angel are doing here.

It doesn’t take a genius to predict success here. Gianna’s spent a lot of time building up an enormous fanbase and now she’s going to cash it in. I bet the pre-orders on this title are going to be record-breaking (at least for the months since September when things started to really go south). I know I’ll be getting a copy.

Porn: The Fountain of Youth?

fountain
As men age, they produce less testosterone than they once did. Basic biology, right? According to an article in Newsweek, pharmaceutical makers are trying to pathologize this situation by making up a new “treatable condition” called (get ready for the marketing speak) “Low T.”

The thing is, you don’t need drugs to raise your testosterone levels, you just need a hard on. According to a scientist quoted in the Newsweek article, getting an erection “drives up dopamine levels, which drives up your testosterone.” So watching porn (or having sex) can help keep some of the annoying “symptoms” of aging at bay.

One thing to keep in mind: testosterone/erections are a use-it-or-lose-it kind of deal. Low testosterone levels can interfere with your ability to get hard.

Porn is a whole lot cheaper and free of side effects than testosterone therapy, not to mention that compelling research suggests getting off can help protect against prostate cancer. I personally think doctors should be recommending a healthy sex life (with oneself or others) as an ounce of prevention vs. a pound of pills as a cure.

Huge Porn Star Escorting Bust on the Horizon?

michelle-braun-mckenzie-leeYes, we all know that some porn girls escort on the side. Some, like Sunny Lane, do it the smart way – at legal brothels. Others work for escorting agencies that, while perhaps offering more privacy, are prone to little things like federal investigation.

The madame behind possibly the largest porn star escort service of its kind – Nici’s Girls – is Michelle Louise Braun. She was charged in federal court today and it’s come out that in exchange for a plea deal (5 years probation, up to 6 months house arrest and a $30k fine), she’s rolling over on her clients and her girls.

According to documents on Hollywood, Interrupted, names found among the records for Nici’s girls include Playmate Nicole Lenz, Playmate Alexandria Karlsen, Playmate Victoria Silvstedt and 90’s porn star Victoria Paris.

playmate-hookers1

Seventy-one women allegedly worked for Braun, including former Club Jenna contract girl McKenzie Lee, who was specifically named by the U.S. District attorney prosecuting the case. According to industry veteran Mike South, two other porn stars (Elizabeth Starr and an unknown woman who may have been Taylor Wayne) were arrested about a month ago as part of what Starr described as a huge federal investigation into porn star escorting.

Looks like some shit may hit the fan in the coming months/year or so. You know who won’t be caught up in it? Mika Tan. Just saying…

Vivid Signs…Museum Studies Grad?

aj-baileyVivd, you vex me. I know there are very smart people running that place. I’ve met some of them and liked them a lot. What I don’t know is how they pick their contract girls. It doesn’t seem to follow any reasonable formula and I’m pretty confused by the latest choice: 29-year-old A.J. Bailey.

Of Vivid’s current stable, the only ones I like are Monique Alexander (who I hear isn’t even with Vivid anymore) and Meggan Mallone. They’re spunky, cute and generally competent porn actors. The other ones seem to be boring and (paradoxically), plagued by controversy.

I went and looked at some of A.J.’s work so that I could give an honest opinion of her. It’s hard to judge her based on the work she’s done so far for 2 reasons: there’s not a whole lot of it and what there is is entirely solo or girl/girl. I want the girl/girl scenes to be representative of her work because she said that she “was really into girl/girl in [her] personal life” when she was making them, but it doesn’t bode well. Because they’re kind of boring. She just doesn’t stand out to me.

A.J. will be joined at Vivid by the recently-returned Raylene, an industry veteran who continues to have a following even after quitting the business in 2001.

Who knows – maybe that’s what Vivid needs right now. With Hanna Hilton dating a convicted rapist/accused of being a prostitute and Nikki Jayne’s turbulent romantic life/skipping out on her duties at award shows, mature, reliable performers might be what they’re looking for. Bailey is a 29-year-old with a Master’s degree in Museum and Gallery Studies and Raylene spent the last 8 years selling real estate and starting a family. If you’re looking for grounded, these ladies seem to fit that bill. I just wonder if “grounded” is the basis for hot porn?

Check out A.J. Bailey for yourself:

Goodbye Penny Flame, Hello Jennie Ketcham

Penny Flame aka Jennie KetchamA lot has been made of Penny Flame’s impending appearance on Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew. A lot of people, myself included, wondered whether she’d hit rock bottom or was trying to improve her mainstream name-recognition. Her new blog is being promoted on industry boards (not by her), and after reading it, the answer might be “both.”

Penny’s real name is Jennie Ketcham, and now that she’s left porn, it makes sense to refer to her as Jennie going forward. In fact, she’s actively trying to leave the Penny Flame persona behind her because it’s the only way to move forward with a new life:

…I apologize for speaking about Penny as though she is a different girl than me, but fundamentally, she is. I don’t want to keep separating my actions from hers, but at this point I feel I must in order to separate myself from the little monster created. Because she is a monster, one that has gone tearing through this town crushing everything in her path.

After reading Jennie’s blog, I was really filled with hope for her and her future. Unlike some other stars who leave the business and proceed to trash it (Sierra Sinn, for example), Jennie doesn’t blame porn or anyone in it for her circumstances. She’s an alcoholic and a sex addict and she’s taking it a day at a time. I hope she’s able to maintain her sobriety and I’ll be looking forward to whatever she does next.
